Principal's update

24 July 2025

Tēnā koutou ngā whanau ō Te Kura Awaawaiti,

Welcome back to term 3. Along with welcoming the children back we have also welcomed a spell of fine (albeit cold) weather. It has been a refreshing break from the rain, and our thoughts go out to all those in our community who were affected by the flooding events.

The closure of Rock's Road made for a backlog of traffic around our school last week. Thank you to all those who showed extra patience and care in getting to school safely and around pick up time at the end of the day.

Talent Show

Although we were disappointed to postpone last term, it was actually a great start to the term to hold the Talent Show last week.

It was a fantastic showcase of the variety of skills and activities our tamariki are engaged in. From singing and dancing to magic and mime, the audience were enthralled all afternoon with a variety of acts.

Well done to everyone who took part, and a special thanks to the team of staff and students who worked behind the scenes to bring us a memorable event.

Attendance

Throughout last term and already this term we have been noticing a high level of illness among our students. It is a good time to remind people that if they are feeling unwell they should stay at home so that they don't pass bugs onto others. Please remember that if children have had vomiting or diarrhoea they must stay home for 48 hours after their last symptoms.

We have also noticed a number of children having time off for trivial reasons, such as birthdays or holidays in term time. Please be aware that these will be recorded as an unjustified absence. If we notice a pattern of these that may be impacting learning we will contact you to discuss how we can ensure consistent attendance for your child.

Epro8

This week out Manaaki ākonga have been participating in Epro8, an engineering challenge programme.

Teams were given a briefing which set a task that they had to complete using the components in the kit. Each team featured different roles allocated to different members.

The challenges are a great opportunity to learn teamwork skills, reading and listening, as well as understanding how simple machines such as levers and pulleys work.

Board Elections

Parents should have received an email recently regarding our upcoming Board of Trustee elections. We are currently calling for nominations for the three available positions on our board.

If you are interested in running for our Board of Trustees and would like to find out more, please get in touch with our current presiding member, Lisa Charles, at l.charles@ennerglynn.school.nz

Being a board member is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the school and support the strategic direction going forward. An important part of our school is having a board that has a diverse range of skills, experiences and perspectives, so please consider what you may have to offer. We look forward to receiving nominations by 12 noon of Wednesday 6 August.

Ngā mihi nui koutou, Kia pai ō rā whakatā, have a great weekend,

John
