Principal Update - Week 2, Term 4 - 2022

Kia ora koutou.

There are some important announcements for this week, so please read this message carefully!! :-)

My replacement in 2023

As you are all aware I will be on leave in 2023 to complete my doctoral studies. In my absence, Jillian Porter will act as Principal. We are currently looking for a New Entrant teacher to replace Jillian. We are also looking for a learning needs coordinator to take on much of her leadership role here at the school.

Class Placements

A reminder that the time for providing information that may support class placement for your child is now over. We will have draft classes by the 18th of November ready for the students first visit to their new classes. I would like to remind you that this process has been lengthy and complex as we try to manage the varying needs of our students. However, as mentioned in previous messages, it is impossible to honour every request from parents as we try to maintain balance, social groups and the needs of the students.

Paid Union Meetings 18th November

Today we were advised that these Paid Union Meetings will be held on the 18th of November. Due to our planned events and other activities also being held 17th and 18th of November, we believe it is easier to send all of our teachers to the one meeting. This will save us having to reschedule these other events. This means that at 1pm on Friday the 18th of November we will ask families who can, to pick up their children. We will have a small number of staff on site to support those students who cannot leave early on this day. Please advise the school office if your child will be staying at school so we can plan our activities for this afternoon.

Staffing changes for 2023

I would like to take this time to announce that we will also be losing Isaac Taylor next year as he takes up a new teaching position at Nayland College. Isaac has been a great influence in our team over the years and he will be sorely missed. We wish Isaac the very best in his new role and know that he will continue to contribute wonderfully to the Nayland College staff.

Class Structure 2023

Next year we are planning the following class structure:

  • 3 Classrooms of New Entrant/Yr 1

  • 3 Classrooms of Yr 1/2

  • 5 Classrooms of Yr 3/4

  • 4 Classrooms of Yr 5/6

We are yet to appoint teaching positions in Yr 5/6 (two positions), Yr 3/4 (3 positions) And New Entrant/Yr 1 (2 positions). The Board and I are working on these appointments at the moment and will make announcements on these in the next few weeks.

Policy Review Term 4

This Term we are reviewing Health Safety and Welfare. A reminder that our policy can be found by going to the policy page on our school website. The review page can be found on the home page of our policy site. I will include an overview of our concerns and complaints as a reminder (click here). Please refer to this if you wish to raise a concern with someone here (please never raise a concern directly with a student!).

Are you planning on leaving us?

Please let us know if you will be moving or taking your children to another school next year (obviously not our Yr 6 Students! :-D). Also - please encourage families in our zone to let us know that they will be joining us next year (if they have not already). This will make our planning for 2023 so much easier!

Thanks to you all.

:-)
