Tēnā koutou ngā whānau ō Te Kura Awaawa Iti Enner Glynn,
Welcome to Term 2!
Our first big update is the announcement of our new kaitiaki whenua/ caretaker, Patrick Hay. Patrick will join us later this week. He brings with him a mountain of experience from the building industry, and some great ideas. Some of you may already know Patrick as Josh's dad from Room 12. If you see Patrick around be sure to welcome him to his new role.
This week we also welcomed five new entrant students to our kura. We hope that your first few days have gone well and we look forward to seeing you flourish in your new school.
Upcoming events
This is a short term, with only nine weeks and a couple of long weekends coming up. Because of this it will be a busy and action packed term, with some key events that we are looking forward to.
The first of these is our Whānau Learning Conversations on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 May.
For these two days school will shut at 1:45, so that we can have our first meetings at 2pm.
From Monday you will be able to book a time for these, please go to schoolinterviews.co.nz and input the event code: x9wvf
We expect that all families (parents and students) will attend these important hui. If you are unable to come along to one of the available appointment slots please contact your teacher to make another time. If your child has an IEP meeting this term you will not need to book a time.
On Tuesday 27 May we will be holding our Whole School Cross Country event at Moturoa/Rabbit Island. We encourage as many parents as possible to come out and support the tamariki for this.
On the evening of Wednesday 18 June we will be holding a Matariki celebration. More details will come out about what this will involve, but keep the date free!
Policy Review
This term we are reviewing policies in relation to emergency management. We encourage whanau feedback as part of our policy review process.
Please follow this link to see the current policy review and follow prompts to submit your feedback.
On the matter of Emergency Procedures, it is important that parents are familiar with the school procedures for releasing students in an emergency situation. Please be aware that:
If we are in a civil defence emergency situation such as a storm, flooding or earthquake we will not let children make their own way home. We will keep them at school until a parent comes to collect them.
If we were in a lockdown situation we would not allow any children to leave, and we would not allow any parents in to collect their child. This may extend outside of normal school hours. In a lockdown situation we would be operating under the direction of police, and we would ask that parents follow both school and police instructions.
We need to have up to date contact details for families. If your phone number, address or email, or family circumstances, have changed, please let us know.
In an emergency we would be communicating via text, and if possible seesaw or facebook. This will depend on circumstances of the situation.
As always we plan for the worst, hope for the best, but we cannot plan for all eventualities. In an emergency situation we would respond to the situation as it arises, following our processes and procedures as best we can.
Ngā mihi nui,
John
